ELX features: electrical contractor software from work order to extract

ELX is electrical contractor software: a bilingual cloud (SaaS) system hosted and operated by Matrix that runs in the browser, with no servers needed on the contractor's side. Built for electricity-network contractors in Saudi Arabia, it carries each utility work order from registration to archive, through site survey, excavation permits, execution, quality, the achievement certificate and the extract, and ties every order to its warehouse movements.

Electrical contractor software modules in ELX

ELX covers the work order and its stages, site survey and permits, execution and quality, extracts and achievement certificates, warehouse and materials, reports and notifications, field work, permissions and per-company data isolation. Open any module to see what your team records there and what the system works out for you.

The work-order journey in ELX, from registration to archive

Every stage has its own screen, time limit and owner. "Relay" saves the stage data, then moves the order on once the user's relay permission and the stage's mandatory fields, notes and attachments check out. For the full walkthrough, read utility work order stages, from receipt to archive.

  1. 1

Register or import the work order

Record the utility's work order with its subscriber, location, contract and implementing agency, or import a batch from Excel and review the rows before saving. Orders are numbered automatically, and duplicates with the same name and work description are blocked. More in work order management.

  2. 2

    Site survey and excavation permit

The survey team records the inspection, coordinates, drill types and lengths, then marks whether the survey matches, whether materials match and whether a permit is needed. If one is, the permits team tracks the license number, dates and municipality, and emails a permit application generated from an editable template. More in site survey and permits.

  3. 3

    Execution in Projects or Connections

ELX routes the order to Projects or Connections by implementing agency. The execution team records dates, completion percentage, excavations, implementation items and meters, and raises issue-to-site and return-from-site material requests. The order cannot be relayed while a stock request is pending. The Replay stage is an optional step: when it is enabled for a drill type used in the project, the order passes through it before quality.

  4. 4

    Quality

The quality inspector marks each evaluation item identical or not identical, with notes and files. If any item fails, the order goes back to Projects or Connections and the return is counted; once every item passes, it moves on to the achievement certificate. More in execution and quality.

  5. 5

    Achievement certificate and drawing

The certificate shows the materials balance, excavations and items with quantities and prices. ELX calculates its total and stores it for the extract, and the drawing files are then uploaded with reference names.

  6. 6

    Extract, then archive

Pick a contract and work description, and the extract pulls in the matching work orders that have achievement certificates, with their values. Enter a fine per order and ELX calculates the net value, VAT at the rate set in settings, and the invoice total. Once the accreditation date is entered, the extract's orders move to the archive. More in extracts and certificates.

Spreadsheets and messaging groups vs. ELX

If your team tracks work orders in Excel sheets and scattered messages today, here is a qualitative look at what changes when the whole path lives in one system. If you are comparing several products, start with our buyer’s guide to electrical contractor software.

Getting started with ELX

What does Matrix provide with ELX?

ELX is a cloud (SaaS) service hosted and operated by Matrix, so your team works in the browser with no servers needed on your side. The Matrix team helps you move onto the system and keeps supporting you once you are up and running.

  • User training

The Matrix team trains your company's users to work in ELX, so each team can run its own stages in the system.

  • Data migration from Excel

The Matrix team moves your existing Excel data into ELX: work orders, materials and master data. The Excel import tools in the system stay available to your team afterwards.

  • Technical support on WhatsApp

Technical support from the Matrix team comes over WhatsApp, and your users will find a technical-support button in the ELX header.

  • Customised to your company

Matrix customises screens, reports and stages to each contractor's needs. Your own administrator also sets each stage's time limit, relay mode and mandatory notes and attachments.

Frequently asked questions about ELX features

Which stages and modules does ELX cover?

ELX covers the whole path of a utility work order: registration or Excel import, site survey (Kashfia) and excavation permits, execution in Projects or Connections, quality, the achievement certificate, drawing and extracts, then the archive. Every order is tied to its warehouse movements and material estimate, alongside a dashboard and reports, Telegram and WhatsApp alerts, per-screen and per-action permissions, and a separate instance and database for every company.

Do we need our own servers to run ELX?

No. ELX is a cloud (SaaS) service hosted and operated by Matrix. Your team works in the browser with no servers needed on your side, and every company gets its own web instance and database. Matrix also provides user training, data migration from Excel, technical support over WhatsApp, and customisation of screens, reports and stages to your needs.

Is ELX an accounting package or a full ERP?

No. ELX is a specialised operations system for utility work orders, with no general ledger, payroll, HR or purchasing module. It does calculate each achievement certificate's value, and for each extract it calculates the net value, VAT at the rate set in settings and the invoice total. For the trade-offs, read ERP or a specialised work order system?

Can we bring our existing work orders over from Excel?

Yes. Upload an Excel file of work orders and ELX shows the rows in a review grid before saving. It lists the cities, districts and work descriptions missing from your master data in a downloadable gaps report, and skips duplicate rows while telling you how many. Ready Excel templates also cover utility receipts, material estimates and historical stock movements, and the Matrix team can migrate your existing Excel data for you, from work orders and materials to master data.

Does ELX connect automatically to the utility's systems or to government platforms?

No. Work-order and material data reaches ELX through Excel import or on-screen entry. ELX tracks the excavation permits the contractor obtains, with their numbers, durations and status, but it does not file or issue permits on government platforms, and it is not connected to any e-invoicing platform.

Does ELX support field work on mobile?

ELX supports field work through a mobile-ready API for field apps, alongside the web system that runs in the browser; there is no published ELX app in the app stores. Through the API, field staff receive survey, permit, project, connection, replay and maintenance tasks, save data, upload photos and files, and relay survey, permit, project and replay tasks under the same validation rules. More in field work and mobile API.

How does ELX handle stage delays?

Administrators give every stage a limit in days, counted from relay or from receipt. Overdue orders are flagged in stage lists and distribution screens, and the dashboard shows them against orders still within the limit. When justification is mandatory, a late order cannot be relayed until a delay justification with files is entered. More in work order SLA and delay justifications.
